Symbolism Makes Me a Happy Lemon .

The Sleeping Gypsy by Henri Rousseau.
What lions prey upon the unconscious mind?

By the way, Rousseau was totally untrained.

And totally jammin.
This is the first piece I have seen and identified as Symbolism in my studies... hopefully there are many more to come. Painting from reality sometimes feels limited to me. Painting from the mind.. well there are infinite, and new possibilities! Although the feeling one finds in different realities also seem to allow for an infinite amount of possibilites. Really, i don't want to limit myself at all in my artistic endeavors. I want to try it all.
And I want to be really good, the classical way, so i can be free in my discipline. Spending fourteen years of my life as a dancer has taught me that the free-est freedoms ( yay adjectives! ) come from mastering technique. Also, by knowing the rules, I can feel more confident in breaking them.
Or so I hypothesize.

Did Van Goh knows the rules? Either way, he sure was breaking them left and right, and essentially, the general public told him it was poopy.
But he did it anyway. Van Goh could barely make a living off his work. But he did it anyway.
Did he feel unsuccesful? Did he care? Did he not need the approval of others to feel like his work was a success?

This amazes me, as I am admittedly used to praise as a sign of success, if not money.

As for Rousseau, crazily enough everyone thought he had traveled to these exotic places, when in actuality, they were from his imagination.

I really love the woman's dress in this painting. I love the colors of the whole painting.
This is art that feels. It feels rich and beautiful.

Speaking of beautiful,
It's beautiful outside right now.
Sunshine's effects on my insides are like ice cream's effects in my belly.

Delicious :)

Have a wonderful day, and paint with life the weekend canvas that stretches out before you!

Love,
Lemonhead.
